Ozone hole is larger than north American continent

Intense depletion of the ozone layer above Antarctica happens each year. In October 2015 it was more than 1.5 million square miles larger (2.5Mkm2) than in 2014, exposing an area of 16 million square miles of Earth’s surface. German Space Agency (DLR,) scientists “suspect that climate change is altering the behavior of planetary waves” correlated with ozone supply in the stratosphere.
